 Queen City RiotMusic Genre: Rock Description: Releasing their 1st studio album in just under one year, Queen City Riot has been working on securing their place in the rock and roll world. Starting with an intense introduction "Automation" has set the stage for what will likely be one of the best local albums of 2014. Track after track, the band creates thick layers of music and vocals, while developing a conceptual experience that never feels rushed or overdone. In fact, "Automation" feels more like one long song rather than 12 individual tracks. The album has a sort of unpredictable consistency to it; just when you think you’ve got a grasp on the music, the QCR band shifts gears while maintaining a sense of familiarity. ‘Bribes for Lies’ is a perfect example as it begins with an almost alt-rock feel to it, but halfway through, the band takes things to an unexpected and nearly metal direction. Few bands can pull off this type of transition, yet it seems as though it comes natural to Queen City Riot. Without compromising their creation, they take listeners on a memorable ride. With songs such as the awe inspiring anthem "Don't Be Afraid" and the hard driving riff rock rhythms of "Catch Yourself", Queen City Riot has taken a concept, and found something most bands usually never do....great music.
